Lawrence Ross - Broker
First licensed in September 1986. Received an associate broker’s license in 1989.
My real estate education in those years included all the necessary GRI and CRS classes through the National Association of REALTORS, as well as two semester-long appraisal classes and a commercial/investment class at U.A.A. I served as a director of the Anchorage Board of REALTORS as well as a director of the Alaska State Association of REALTORS, and served as a member of several committees and chaired the Public Relations Committee. Taught first time homebuyer classes on Elmendorf AFB and Fort Richardson.
Worked for Stewart Title Insurance (then Pacific Rim Title) here in Alaska from June 1991 through June 1993, then Stewart Title of Sacramento from 1993 through November 1996, then moved back to Alaska and went back to work for Stewart Title as Marketing Director until December 1998. I started the first network of top producing licensees, Marketing Masters of Anchorage, during this time. In November 1998 I started Buyers Real Estate, a single-agency brokerage.
When in the title insurance business, I taught marketing classes for real estate agents in California, and was approved for continuing education credit for classes I taught to real estate agents back here in Alaska. I also taught short seminars on title insurance issues (i.e., community property) to small classes of real estate licensees. Over the last four years I’ve taught real estate seminars at Elmendorf AFB to active duty and retired military personnel in my capacity as a member of A.B.R.’s military committee and have been a regular speaker at Alaska Housing’s HomeChoice first time homebuyer classes, averaging about 32 students once a month over the past eight years. In 2006, I helped start the Real Estate Network, a second group of top producing licensees.
Ayla Rogers is a life-long Alaskan and is as excited about exploring the outdoors as she is about real estate. She began studying real estate at age 11 with ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ and has loved and pursued it ever since. She joined Buyers Real Estate in 2012 after being in property management for 2 years prior. She considers herself to be extremely lucky to learn with Larry Ross, who has 28 years of experience in the business and an equal passion for real estate. Ayla is a firm believer in setting goals and accomplishing them. She looks forward to hearing about your goals and helping you achieve them!
Thomas Strapko has lived in Alaska most of his life. Growing up on the Kenai Peninsula, he moved to Anchorage to pursue a criminal justice degree with aspirations of practicing law. Thomas moved to Washington DC on a whim to take an internship at the Office of the Attorney General in 2007. After completing his program in 2008, he began to have doubts about his desire to go to law school. It was at this point in time that he discovered his true love of traveling. Since being bitten by the nomadic bug, Thomas has been to 30 different countries in the past six years. While working on his MBA, Thomas became interested in real estate and real estate investment as a path to achieve the freedom that he wanted to have. In 2013 he joined Buyers Real Estate and is fortunate to learn with and from such a dynamic real estate team.
Property Management Team
Michael Wight has been interested in real estate, investment properties, and property management since age 15. After graduating high school he studied management and marketing at the University of Alaska. He continued to educate himself in his spare time on real estate investing through reading books, taking seminars, and talking to professionals. He purchased his first investment property at the age of 19. After graduating with a BBA from the University of Alaska, Michael secured a property management job with Weidner Property Management. There he earned very valuable experience and education, but his entrepreneurial spirit desired position with more potential and more responsibilities. He left Weidner to start working with Larry Ross at Buyers Real Estate, managing only 20 units. The company has grown very rapidly and successfully from that point. In only two years, Buyers Real Estate Property Management had acquired a portfolio of over 300 units and four full time property management employees. The company continues to grow and improve every month.
